Day 7 - Exploring Kochi / Chinese Nets

The Fisherman at work
Our Driver Sharfeekh begins our tour of Kochi with the traditional Chinese Fishing Nets. These net systems have been in action from as early as 350 - 450 AD.
The sound of crows, lapping water and fisherman calls fill the air around us. You can smell fish all around you as you walk up the esplanade. Pieces of litter are dropped all over the ground and the pavings are uneven, some tiles are dislodged and you need to be careful of your footing.
Seabirds cry overhead and land softly on the rocks nearby.
Fishermen release their surface nets carefully in the water as their partner rythmically paddles his oar through the murky waters.

You can hear the sounds of laughter from over the other side, as another family starts to pack up and tie their nets securely to dry in the morning breeze.

You can see the weights and pully system used

Lots of Crows waiting for a free meal........

Not a great catch this morning :(

One lone fish is caught in the net....
